Credit Reporting & Scoring

CUA’s advocacy work in the area of credit scoring is focused on:

  • The use of credit scoring only for the purpose intended, which is for lenders to evaluate the credit risk of consumers;
  • Ensuring that consumers can correct credit report errors;
  • Making certain that laws protect consumers from unauthorized access to credit reports.

For several years, legislators have introduced bills to stop the use of credit scoring for the purpose of underwriting insurance policies. None of those bills passed.
